my 12 year old eventer last year developed what we asssume to to a bit sore half way through the season it never seemed to bother her or affect her placing but the sore wont heal however much bongela or haemerroid cream I plaster on it!! She had 3 months without a bit in over the winter and it healed up so you almost couldnt see the old sore but has now opened back up. I have tried all number of bits (she normally goes in a kk loose ring french link) (the bits have loose rings so use bit rubbers) and it still seems to open right back up and this is just hacking.
Have run out of options as my vets cant suggest anything that i havent already tried
I thought it was me but have been reassured by my instructor that its not my hands.
Any one had the same problem or got any ideas will try anything!?
Thanks <font color="blue"> </font> <font color="blue"> </font>

Can only usggest using bit rings when not competing. And when the cut isnt open using skin hardener on it??? That will harden the skin

I was thinking about putting some form of hardener on it but didnt know what kind to put on any ideas? its funny sore as it isnt bleeding it is just down to pink skin very strange

I use Gold label skin hardener where Spider had little patches where my legs had rubbed a bit of hair off - I dont wear spurs on her but must be as its her 1st full period of work! I just spreaded it on every day. I think it has instructions, you do something like apply every day for a certain amount of time then just use once a week or something

hey,
my boy has exactly the same prob and i have no idea how it happens!(he is strong but i wouldnt expect that alone to cut his mouth)i use lanolin on the corners of his mouth-this works well and it will clear up in 2/3 days-until it happens again!!

where did you get lanolin from? I am having huge problems now bitting her as have tried a straight bar as i thought it may be the links possibly pinching her but thats not working very well
am well and truely lost now

Good News
I think I have found the solution to my mares problem, as she is very fleshy in her mouth the first molar was sharp i had been having her teeth done regularly but this had just been overlooked as she isnt very good with the dentist. I had the vet to sedate her and a dentist called anthony jones and we seem to have solved her problem have been XC schooling and everything
So now just keeping fingers crossed
