I need to move my field shelter in spring, only about 40ft or so.
It's a 10 x 20 and on wooden skids. We have a tractor and ratchet straps but I'm wondering what sort of fixings to attach to the skids?

Has anyone moved one this size? How did you do it and did it work ok?

Mine came with a towing chain with a fitting that goes over the tow hook of the tractor. The other end of the chain fits on to both ends of the metal bars at both sides of the shelter, making a triangle shape. I can tow from both sides of the shelter. The metal bar has holes in it and the chain fits on using shackles. Hope that make sense?

yes we have moved shelters this size with a tractor and ratchet straps, however there were D shackles already fastened to the skids. Just ensure that the timber is sound enough to pull on.

I've moved my 12x24s several times but they are on metal skids, with metal eyes which are built into the frame
I have also had a 10x14 on wooden 'skids' (which I assumed were just there for show) moved - I think the guys just did it little by little by shoving a digger bucket underneath

Ours is 12x18 and we moved it this year. What we learn't is they don't move as easy as you think! We mastered it by putting large metal gates underneath it and pulling on them . We did it on very hard ground and probably doing it on ground with a little bit of give would be better but putting on the gates worked the best rather then using the skids.

If you can borrow some 12' jump poles have it lifted a bit and place 5 or 6 under it, pull or push it along on top of the poles, place the poles about 3' apart as one is free at the back move it to the front to keep rolling along, it works, it's easier to roll than drag. (Put a box of breakfast cereal on top of half a dozen straws to see how easy it works)
