i have a horse on a D.I.Y yard where there is 2 confirmed cases of strangles. a week before the outbreak i had agreed with a annother yard to move there in 2 weeks. after finding out about strangles i decided to wait untill the yard was clear. the new yard owner is currently keeping the new stable open free of charge. it has been 6 weeks since the last strangles case, and i have done every precaution to make sure my mare does not get it! she is not stables, not in ANY contact with ANY other horse, im not riding her in the school, (or on hacks) but in a field.

i was thinking about getting swabs done on her just to show the yard she hasnt got it. i know theese arnt 100%, but i think they're better than nothing!

how long should i wait after the last confirmed case? any any tips?

thanks :)

Usual swabs are 3 clear swabs taken over 3 months if I remember correctly!

You are doing the right thing for the moment but some horses may not show the symptoms but can be carriers of the disease.

I am sure the new yard will continue to be understanding and will thank you for being so careful
