Hello all!

I'm moving yards this Friday, finally!! After a few hiccups it's all officially starting - hoorah!

Me and my boy are being picked up by the transport company at around 4pm, a bit unfortunate as I was hoping to go in the morning but hey ho...

Anyway, I'm at the current yard all day packing up etc, and I was wondering what you guys thought I should do with hoss on Friday. He normally goes out early in the morning, and is then brought in at 2pm for his feed of HiFi and supplements...

I was wondering if this should happen as usual, so then when we load up at 4 he just walks out of his stable onto the trailer? This is what I was planning, so he was nice and chilled, has a full day of turnout and his tea at the usual time, so he doesn't get stressed or confused at a sudden change. But, does anyone here not like turning out in the day before travelling? He'll then be in 48hrs of quarantine at the new yard with no turnout or anything at all, so I thought the extra day in the field was also even more beneficial...

Anyway, I'm looking for some words of wisdom! If anyone thinks I'm wrong in doing this then please educate me, I've never moved to an alternate yard before!

Turn him out as normal, bring in a little while before being loaded but don't feed until he gets to the new yard so he has that to help him settle, I see no reason to keep them in before traveling it is likely to get them upset while waiting, especially as he has 48 hours of no turnout ahead of him.

I've always had no problem turning out before travelling- my friends pony who I loaned was out 24/7 and was fine to travel, as with her horse and my mad pony! Imo it's better for them to have a last runaround and stretch of their legs before travelling, especially if they have to be in quarantine for 48 hours! However at the end of the day it so totally down to you as you know your horse the best out of anyone :)

I regularly turn out before travelling as horse is out overnight in summer so if competing he comes in and then travels never had any issues. Would agree either don't feed before travelling or if he will get distressed if the rest of the yard and he isn't then give a token extra feed of chaff and then normal feed at new yard.

Im moving mine Friday too!! yaaaaay!! mine are out 24/7 and will leave them out till about 2 hours before we leave, to try and keep routine with them. (especially if hes going to be in for 48 hours after) you dont want to be trying to load a fizzy horse then have him in for another 48 hours!! good luck! :D
