Hi. I am moving two horses on sunday and need some advice on the best way to travel them.

One is in his teens and the other is a youngster. both can be a bit awkward when it comes to loading but they both travel well when they are on. Neither have ever travelled in a box with another horse. it will be a 15 min. trip

This may sound a bit wet but Im a bit concerned about the youngster having a fit when the second pony is loaded as I think she has a bit of an issue with enclosed spaces. I really dont want her to have a bad experience travelling.

Do you think I should ask a friend to come alond with a second box and travel them seperatelly or should I just take the plunge and travel them together? I also cant take one at a time as the youngster has bad seperation anxiety issues.

Thank you.

You could be a bit naughty and have a friend travel in the box with the horses so in the event your youngster freaks out then he/she can call/text to advise to pull over or slow down. I've done it in the past when we had a nervous youngster and just having someone on board seems to help keep the horse/s calm. 15 mins is only a short trip so shouldn't be too much problem.
I've also found that as long as both horses have a haynet onboard then they seem to be occupied enough that they tend to settle better.
I would also if possible have someone follow you in their car to make sure all is OK.
I know how nerverackimg it is to travel horses, especially young/nervous types, so make sure you allow plenty of time to load and take it slowly on the road as sudden stopping/starting and turning corners can turn even the quietest types into raging freaks if they are not used to it.
Good luck and I'm sure all will go well.

I actually moved mine separately, as I was concerned about one of them upsetting the other etc.

Would your youngster not be ok at "home" if you took the older horse first? You'd hopefully be back within 40 mins?

Leaving her at home is not an option. She would pitch a fit and once her blood is up i dont think she would get on the box.

I think im going to have to take the plunge and travel them together as my back up friend cant make it now! I have a camera in the trailer and my dad will pull the box so im hoping everything goes ok. I am the worlds biggest pescemist (sp) but i always say if you plan for the worst case scenario you can only be pleasently surprised!

I might try her with some NAf magic. My friend said this helped a lot with her mare who had the opposite problem to me and wouldn't travel on her own!

It maybe worth loading her second so atleast she doesnt have another horse coming up the ramp behind her and startling her if you are concerned about the confined space. and yes i would get a calmer onboard. when we moved my tb he panics as he thinks he is either going races/going to be transported hours (last journey from ireland into sales here and the down to south england) i gave him a couple mg sedalin and he travelled like a saint! now we have time i am working on the issue and he is much better

After initially having massive problems loading her (long story involving idiot ex owner) she now loads fine as long as the front ramp is down and she can see through the box and travels beautifully. Im just anxious that she doesn't have a bad experience travelling which could see me right back to square one!

I just remembered that i have some sedalin somewhere (shuffles off to find it!)
