Gradually mix in the hay for a couple of weeks. I think you will find that he is calmer on the hay. If he dislikes the dryness, then consider soaking or steaming it.
What is the haylage like? if it is really rich stuff, then I would buy a bale of hay from new yard to mix in (am sure they would understand) and then add a section in on day 1, 2 in day two etc until bale finished in a couple of days and you move solely onto hay. If the haylage is meadow grass, then you can switch between the two as long as horse doesnt have digestive problems (loose stools etc).
I regularly switch between meadow grass hay and haylage as the haylage I use is from the same fields as the hay, and it is very dry so virtually the same as the hay and my horse has normal poo. If using rich ryegrass haylage then definitely mix in.
Very exciting about the new yard - if I remember correctly you have been at current yard forever?
I havent definitly decided to move but the scales are very definitly tipped in that direction. The prospect is now feeling exciting instead of terrifying a bit of an adventure.

I dont know what you mean its only been about 26 years how is that forever ??
Sorry - didnt mean that in a bad way, just that you had been at current yard for a number of years, and certainly the entire time since you have had this horse.
Hope everything goes well whichever yard you choose.
