Morning,

My 7 yr old gelding and I are moving yards on 23rd December, new yard doesn’t have an arena just yet but great hacking, obviously I can’t hack him every day when we move as I work full time and it’s winter so could probably manage 4x a week weather permitting until the nights get lighter.

currently he’s on working livery as I hurt my knee a few months ago and wasn’t allowed to ride for long periods so I put him on working livery to keep his fitness levels up and help school him.

should I now start to wind him down a bit so that when we move and he’s not exercised as much then it won’t be a shock to his system or maintain his current workload up until we move or doesn’t it make any difference?

He’ll have lots of turnout at the new yard during the day and be in a big stable in a barn overnight.

Advice please? TIA

If the ground is still good, 4x a week active hacking should easily keep his fitness levels up. You can do a lot more varied work out hacking than you can in an arena, and really get all the muscle groups working. Especially as he has daily turnout, I think he will be fine.
Just watch the ground (too soft/too frozen etc.). I bet he will love it!
