Moving horse from UK to US - would you?

Hubby and I are planning on returning home to the US in the next five years or so as we are both homesick! The only thing that has kept us here for so long is my horses! We are planning on taking our whole collection of animals with us though if push came to shove we would leave my little mare. I couldn't bare to part with my gelding though. People have said to me there are horses over there and think of the kind of horse you could buy with the transport money I would save etc but the thing is, they're not MY horse. So I know where you're coming from OP. It is a huge decision though especially if your horse is a nervy traveller. You could speak to your vet about a calmer or sedation. I don't know if they do that for horses but my Mum was offered a sedative for her dog when she flew her from London to Boston a few years ago when she decided to go home. And you have the option of accompanying your horse also which may calm his nerves to see a familiar face.

I can completely understand people taking their animals with them. I don't/can't have children so my animals are very important to me, I don't want to say like my kids but I suppose in a way they are. I could not leave without them.

Thank you so much everyone for your responses, it is such a tough decision and when the time comes it's something that I'm really going to have to have a hard conversation with myself about!

However, a bit of good news! My OH has a telephone interview for a job in Ireland now!! I can't keep up, first it was US and Canada and now he has interviews in Ireland - definitely in demand :p. This can only mean one thing - I GET TO TAKE BILLY :D I am so happy and really pushing for this one, I know it may not come off and we could still end up in the US but I'm cheering myself up at the thought of just being able to ship him over to Ireland, he is half Irish after all :p.
