When do people take their horses off the winter (bald no grass quite rutty) fields - and put them on the fields that have been rested all year?

Do you a set time of year? Down to the weather? Have you done it already?

Our horses have been put on to the summer fields last week. Although we are still using the electric fencing to strip graze - they get fat just breathing in!! We still have another large field which will take us through to December, again strip grazed.

Mine moved on to summer grazing last weekend, and they are VERY happy about it!

My 'poor doers' moved fields to start eating off summer grazing two weeks ago, next week my 'fatties' will follow as there will be less grass!

Mine moved two weeks ago onto 'interim' fields - been rested from sheep for about a month before that and had some grass. They'll probably move onto their summer grazing in a month, although that'll will be restricted as they're all good doers.

I tend to leave mine till mid to end of April as I want to ensure I have good grass growth and I like to have all the fields rolled before I move them across. But we also still have good grass in our winter paddocks so no great hardship for ours. I tend to move my poor doers across into the fatties paddock first - let them graze it off for a week then put in my fatties. The fatties get a smaller paddock so they graze it down and hopefully stay slightly less fat!
