Looking for a small holding / farm / building to convert or renovate, with land minimum 4 acres. We have horses but happy to create horse friendly property to suit ourselves rather than buy “ready made”. Any recommendations as to where to look?

Depends on your budget really as many cambs/northants rural villages and areas are lovely but more expensive than if you were to go toward flatter fenland (boston/ely/march/chatteris) out towards the east coast. But right near the coast land will likely be expensive again.

I grew up east anglia rural countryside and think its a fab area for agriculture and keeping horses, especially as its one of the more drier regions of the uk, helping alleviate the ‘mudload’! as much as possible 😁
I’ve been away for 15yrs and hear there’s been expanded housing development in green areas, but it really is a lovely region for village/country life…good luck with your search! 🙂

Which areas?
Ah if I knew that it would make looking easier. We have no preference. Hubby would like a sea view. I’m of the mind we can’t afford that But we definitely want rural / village. There’s only us 2 & 3 horses so don’t need a big house. Land & outbuildings more important.

We’ve agreed on Sussex for our new home. East or West. So if anyone can point us towards rural property estate agents in Sussex that would be a great help. Last time we were house hunting (over 20 yrs ago) we sent agents the details of what we were looking for & they emailed us properties that fitted our requirements. That doesn’t seem to happen these days.

I totally recommend Rural Scene, they really know the market for the kind of property you are looking for.
