Hi all,

I'm moving my horse from a yard she has been at for roughly 4 years. This is the first time I have moved a horse, and this one is particularly stressy. Essentially, does anyone have any advice for travelling, what to do when getting there etc. I'm very worried about it and really want it to work out!

Please help!

I would make sure the stable is all made up and ready in advance as you don't want to be faffing with that once you're there and have the horse to look after.
Personally, I would get on and ride right away, so the horse is used to being taken somewhere and being ridden, like being at a show for example, even if it's just a quick 5 mins in the school to look around or a 5 min hack up the road :)
I would then turn out as long as there's no restrictions or quarantine period.

Do you think I should move her in the morning or at night? Reading around people have such different opinions, and I don't know if its important of just personal preference...

I would always move in the morning if I had a choice, I try and turn the out straight away and keep an eye on them from a distance to make sure they settle, if she is used to being in at night it means she should arrive hungry, get her head down and make herself at home, if they arrive and go into a box they are more likely to fuss in my experience but it does depend on the yard rules and what they allow with new arrivals.

Thanks everyone..

Any other things to make sure?
She is going to a yard where they are in at night. Currently she is out 24/7. Should I bring her in a couple of nights before the move to get her in the routine or would that likely tell her there is something changing? (Sounds silly but she is so good at picking up on emotions). Obviously I'll take her stuff there beforehand and set up her bed for that night.

Sorry if I sound completely inexperienced... I am when it comes to moving yards and I'm just worried with this one mare because she's quite temperamental. I'm also very nervous about transporting her. I know she has been in trailers before, but not for a little while and we are getting a transport company so its not like we can practice...

I feel like I'm keeping everything crossed that it all goes smoothly atm :(

Take some of her old used bedding so the new stable smells of her when she goes in for the first time.

The problem is she is currently on raviera and in the new place will be on shavings. I might have to have a conversation with YO to see if she can go on raviera so I can mix them easily..
