Moving my pony to London :/ any advice would be greatly appreciated!

This is an update from a post a few weeks ago, I am looking for a yard as close as possible to Mile End, as I am hoping to go to university around there- the only thing is, I need a yard with turnout at least during the daytime as there is no chance I could afford/ my little pony who is 23 would tolerate staying in

.AND, on top of that, preferably near public transport as I cannot afford to take my car! argh!
I have enquired about Aldersbrook and Lea Valley, they both look lovely and are really close but the horses stay in all the time, obviously as there is not much grazing in London! I understand it is a bit of a high order getting grazing so central . I am currently looking at Chingford- there are some really nice places there, but if anyone knows of anywhere closer with turnout please let me know!

I think you will find that anything in Chingford is unlikely to have AYTO - certainly it will be restricted to a couple of hours every other day for about 4 months.

You could try kent, which isnt too far away but for decent AYTO in Essex you need to look a lot further out and you will definitely need a car. Even for the yards in Epping (most have restricted t/o in winter i.e. none!) you will need a car as buses are few and far between.

there are some yards in North London (round Mill Hill) which are within walking distance of the tube station and have AYTO.
 
Lee Valley is a lovely yard - but when i've ridden there there were loads of horses out! Maybe it's only their own horses they turn out then.

I don't know where Mile End is, but have you tried Trent Park (Oakwood, North London) - they have lots of fields and again always seem to have horses out. It's about a 5-8min walk from Oakwood tube station (picadilly line).

How about somewhere near Harrow-on-hill? I think my friend keeps his shared horse there..I'll try and remember to ask him later today what the yard is and whether they do all day turnout all year.

Good luck finding somewhere - I'm going to have this problem in October when I've finished uni and decide to bring my horse down here to London area. At the moment there's no way I could manage to keep my horse here whilst doing Uni and it's much easier for me to go back home every other weekend on the train to compete him.
 
Mile End is on the district line.....I can think of one yard in Upminster within walking distance of the station that has AYTO. I personally wouldn't stable there (hacking isn't great and turn out can be across a main road) but I know a lot of people who do.
There is also livery at Eastminster riding school http://www.eastminster.co.uk/ , which I think has AYTO and is in walking distance of Elm Park tube.

If you go from Stratford you can get the One Railway train out to Harold Wood (I know 2 yards within walking distance of station), Brentwood (at least a couple within 1-2 miles walk or possibly on bus routes) or Shenfield.

Other than that I'm not sure - you're looking amidst urban sprawl for all year turn out, when grass is at a premium! Even further out I know very few yards that offer unlimited AYTO now.
 
Can't really help you with your problem as much as id love to because im so ignorent! omg i lived in london last year and year before for uni (am commuting from norfolk this year for my final year as only in twice a week) and NEVER knew there were even yards or horses anywhere near london lol, i love london for the nigthlife and shopping but i guess i am a bit of a snobby 'country type' who just assumed that it was all urbanised and noone in london had ever set eyes on a horse before! wow lol sorry just had to comment my amazement on people's comments on here suggesting yards etc, if only i knew of them when i was living down there :-(!

Hello, I used to keep horses in the Epping Forest area and always had all year turnout. It's a shame that you won't have transport as that would bring the yards around High Beech into range. Manor Farm is one that always had all year turnout when I kept my horse there but would be difficult to get to by public transport. I moved away a few years ago but does anyone know if there is still livery in Bury Road? Bury Farm? Sovereign Fields? Carrolls Farm? Sorry I am a bit out of touch but these places would be in reasonable walking distance from Chingford station. You could consider taking a bike on the train to cut out the walking. Hacking is great though not as great as when I was a kid when we could ride anywhere! good luck with finding somewhere for your pony.

I only really know yards in North London - London Equestrian Centre have all year turn out and she could live out 24/7 for most of the year however that is towards the end of the Northern line so would be quite a journey for you.

I am in Chorleywood and and that is accessible by public transport but again on the met line and right at the end - it is assisted so YO can turn out and bring in. Also option to live out all year which is what my pony does as he does not like stables but I think the living out group is currently full.

I think one thing you will find though the nearer you get to central london the less turnout and the more expensive as well. You may find it cheaper to go on to assisted DIY and travel further.
