Hi, as we are moving home I had to find a new yard for my girl near the new place and have found my dream after so many years she can finally be out 24/7 during the summer months I am so looking forward to it for her sake. BUT how do I best introduce her to it? Where we are they have been out over night and in during the day for a few weeks. Grazing is pretty bad as we just don't seem to have enough land here. She also has just had 10 days in hospital as she needed to have a few scans. She will be off work for the next 6 weeks and just turned out.

Do I need to be careful with the new field/different grass (potentially more of it) ? Would you just turn her out when we arrive or give her time in the stable? The latter is more difficult as everything will be out so she would be alone which she doesn't like. Other thought was to get them to section off a small paddock for her for a few days for settling in/ getting used to the grazing.

What would you do?

After what I have been through with her lately I really dont want to risk any other problems grass related or possible kicking..

I would turn her out for a few hours, and continue to bring her in for a few nights, gradually extending the time she spends out, Im sure by end of week 2 she should be fine to leave out 24/7.

See, I'd just put the horse straight out 24/7... that's what we do with ours when they move from different yards where they've been stabled. Our approach has always been that they are horses. They are best in a field... Never had any problems!
