Hey all, i am moving my two horses to a new yard tomorrow (yippee) and wondered whether anyone could share their tips to help them settle in.

It is only a 5-10 minute drive from our old yard and involves the same hacking routes (so will be familiar to the horses), we are going up first thing to put down the rubber matting and bedding, i will hang one of their rugs over each door (familiar smell) and then we will be riding them over so that they arrive together.

They will be turned out together but are in seperate parts of the yard so not stabled together (which tbh is a good thing as i don't want them to get too clingy).

They have to stay in for 24 hours (worming) so will be spending time grooming and establishing a routine.

Anything else??

Also, forgot to ask, do you leave to settle before asking for work or expect the horses to 'get on with it', i suppose it does depend on the individual horse and whether they are showing any signs of distress.

The gelding i have should be fine, he is used to going out to competitions/different yards, the mare is more of a worry but am sure she will be fine, yard we are moving is a quiet yard with a very knowledgable yard owner and like minded liveries.

i took mine for a walk when he got off the lorry to let him have a look around. He was left to chill out in his new box for the rest of the day with a haynet and then i walked him in-hand later that night to let him stretch his legs.
I guess it really depends on the horse - mine surprised me by just getting on with it because i thought he'd be really stressed :p
