Moving to Cardiff

Must admit Pontcanna wouldn't be my first choice as a more advanced rider. Fine for beginners though.

Agree with this, used to have excellent horses there but then the livery numbers dropped. However the instruction is decent and private lessons could well be worth it depending what else is on offer

Lots of food for thought, thankyou everyone

Do either Pontcanna or Argae House have websites I can look at? Had a google but may be being thick!

Sarah - thanks

Yes , ITA with that statement .. For begginers it is ideal though as most of there horse are very sedate and a great range for bigger/taller/men to learn on

No neither of them do to my knowledge ! Liege Manor does though

Pontcanna is actually run by the council (or was) there might be something on the council website. Argae doesn't but well worth enquiring about, Aly may still do lessons for an experienced rider and her horses are AMAZING. It's only a 3 minute hack from my yard, I take my boy to lessons with her. Number's in yellow pages etc.

Thanks.

Thanks to all who have PM'd me and offered rides/loans etc. I really am grateful, and would love to find out more - wish I could take them all on

Can't remember now who told me, but it was a reputable source who said that there had been problems there with the condition of the horses and the RSPCA being called in. Didn't ask for more details at the time as this wasn't the first negative I've heard about them.

Duckling, welcome to Cardiff, when you arrive that is!!! I wouldn't go near Downside, not very professional IMHO! I keep my jeej in Dinas Powis not far from the Bay.....

Just a little note of interest I saw a lovely loan horse being offered in the Dinas Powis area as owner off to uni.....16.2 tb I think it has been used for jumping, xc etc. It was advertised in the local Countrywide store.....I can get you more details and tel no. if you like? pm me

If you need a new horsey friend get in touch....I imagine its very scarey moving to a new area and you need all the help you can get. Good luck

I went to see a horse there when I was looking for my current horse. Was told it wasn't a trekking horse, but that the seller worked there and the horse was there to sell as the facilities were better than he had at home. It was supposed to be a 5 yr old jumping 3ft and ready to go out, do riding club and compete. The horse I saw was clearly a trekking horse, still had baby teeth and didn't know how to canter in anything other than a straight line. It was a sweet horse and reasonably cared for but a bit scruffy and its tack left a lot to be desired. That's been my only experience of the place and I wouldn't go back. Other people I know haven't been too impressed with it either.
