Myself and OH are considering moving to New Zealand. Any of you peeps who are living there can you please advise me on how practical it would be to fly my horse over? Plus what areas would you recommend to live in that are best for riding and keeping a horse in?
Thank you very much for reading.

I don't live there, but OH is from there. I looked into taking my old mare when we were considering going a couple of years ago and it worked out at about £6-7K which is pretty pricy! Also you need to think about how much they have travelled in the past as it is a long way.
Don't know much about areas, but from where we have travelled there seem to be a lot of horses about.
Good Luck

My friend is moving to Oz in November and she was going to take her horse with her....until she found out it was going to cost £16,000!!

She was almost considering it but with the cost and the three months quarantine she decided she doesnt want to put him through it.

I going to live there in 9 weeks time ! I'll let you know.

On past research it was going to cost upwards to £10k to take my horse there at at time time of looking I had two. Tragically one died and the other I am frantically looking for a decent sharer with my mum as two loan homes have gone wrong.

On North Island it would appear around the Hamilton area is particularly horsey and on the South Island, Christchurch. We are flying to Christchurch to settle for 6m and then onto North Island to see which we prefer.

Its worth looking at the forum on www.horsetalk.co.nz although its not nearly as popular as this one, there are useful tips on there.

would def go for Christchurch area rather than anywhere on the north island. but that was my preference. When i was looking for quotes im sure it was upwards of 6 grand. Best to ask around and see what you get.

Blue_Bear - what are your reasons for that decision? Just curious and being nosey - I'm worried it will be too cold and thought maybe not enough competitions there?
