Not sure if this is the right place for this if not im sorry but horse care fitted the best aha.
So iv just brought my first horse after sharing another horse with my friend for about a year, shes just moved yards with her horse Bonnie about a month ago and shes settled well and now i have my horse Gem shes gonna be joining her at this yard. Shes moving down in a few days but the last owners are quite worried about her settling in a new home and i was wondering what i can do to help her settle in more.
I have the same bedding as she is use to and feeds and such and she will be stabled right next to Bonnie, is this a good idea budding her up with a horse thats quite new there herself? She will be turned out with her too eventually. I just want to do every thing i can to help her settle in.

The sales really giving me mixed emotions im obviously so excited and happy to have my own at last and she is like my dream mare but for the last owners its a really sad sale for them and i can see its breaking there hearts selling her. Iv told them they can come visit any time they want the yards not far at all, i just feel bad for been so happy around them.

If you've already bougjt the horse, and the yards are close by why not hack over there a few times post move?

But basically, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Whenever I've bought a new horse I've aimed to introduce a routine immediately, which I find helps them settle. Be confident and kind in your handling and you'll be just fine.

Move her and stick to a routine...it really helps settle them...groom, ride, all the usual stuff and don't worry too much as you'll transfer yr worries to her...be relaxed and get on with what you want to do with her, she will be fine! Some horses settle v quickly, others take a bit longer...it will be fine!

have some hay in the stable ready for her and ask the people where she is to have her slightly hungry but obviously not starved before she leaves. put her in her stable and leave alone to settle herself while you have a cup of tea of something. dont keep going in and out at first, act and treat her as if she has been there for years so she will pick up from you and stay chilled

When moving yards I have always took mine early in the morning making sure the stable is ready with a nice big hay net and then they have the day to settle, while i go backwards and forwards with my stuff so you can keep an eye on them while putting all your stuff away and sorting everything out, then I normally turn out later that day for a few hours or wait until the following day. All my horses have been quite calm and settled well so it has worked for me, good luck with your new horse:)
