Hi! so Lily is finally coming home tomorrow, to the yard where my mum looks after the other pony. However, i’ve been asked if i still want the stable on the yard we were originally meant to be going to, at the end of the month when it’s available…

overall, the second yard would be better for the pair of us, but i really don’t think it’s wise or fair to move her after 3.5 weeks, but spaces in that area are like hens teeth and the current yard is going to limit us so much.

On one hand, if she doesn’t settle i’ll be worried about moving her and upsetting her even more, but i also think if she doesn’t settle then she’d benefit from the other yard being much much smaller and quieter.

On the other hand, if she does settle i’ll feel awful for moving her when she’s happy but equally if she settled on there within a few weeks she’d most likely settle even quicker on a smaller yard.

I would absolutely love to move to the other yard, but i’d never forgive myself if she came down with colic or ulcers from the stress. I think deep down i know it’s probably better for her to stay put, but the other yard is a 3 minute drive from home, better/quieter hacking, a useable arena, safer fencing, etc etc. I don’t know if my preference is clouding my judgement in considering that the short term hassle and stress is worth it for the long term. Help!

I would move to the other yard. When we bought our 1st Appaloosa mare, she went to one yard where she did not settle (and walked out of the poor fencing onto a road). We moved her after 6 weeks and she stayed there for 10 yrs. If you can keep her with your other pony and move them together that should help her to settle at the 2nd yard.

We moved yards after five days once - we were worried that the horse would be even more unsettled after only just arriving with us but the turnout and opening times of the first yard were completely different from what we’d been promised. We managed to find a lovely new yard that had a rare space and moved her that weekend and never looked back.

Another vote for move. I moved my horse 4 times last year until I found the right place for him.

If she was mine I would give her aloe vera juice until a few weeks after the moving stops and you feel she is settled.
.

Thankyou i’ll pick some up!

Has she arrived ? Photos please...

She is! arrived at about 10am, loaded up straight away and travelled absolutely fine - 3rd time she’s ever been on a box and by far the longest journey she’s had!

unfortunately her new bridle isn’t very soft yet so it sits a bit funny on the noseband which ruined some very photogenic faces she pulled on our walk, but i’ll add it anyway:) definitely more to follow once i manage to take some in better lighting!
