Hi everyone,

Some kind people replied to my thread the other month about my woes ( http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=505872 ). Well I spoke to my sister about moving Saffron and her girl, Misty up to a yard closer to me (I currently have to drive 50 miles 3 or 4 times a week to get to the horses after I moved to Braintree a year and a half ago). Well she doesn't ride Misty during the week anyway as she doesn't ride on her own, so was pretty agreeable about me moving the girlies up here. I set about searching for a yard and found one quickly via facebook (lots of horsey people in this area). Checked it out and agreed to move. We've moving this weekend!

My two haven't been boxed since we moved from our last yard 8 years ago so I'm a tad nervous. We've hired a lorry with a driver so one less thing to worry about as we don't have to drive. I'm really excited as I'll be able to ride every day if I want to :D

Any advice on travelling? Apparently it's a legal requirement for a horse to wear a tail bandage so have been out and bought some (would have thought they'd be more worried about legs to be honest). What the opinion on leg boots? I've got a set of short ones (which don't cover any joints) but heard some people travel without?

Sorry, not much point to this thread except I'm excited and had to tell someone!

A legal requirment to use a tail bandage?????
Looks like I break the law weekly then, never use em, hate em!

As for boots - its up to you really, I think if you are moving them once and they arent used to boots, dont bother. They can cause more stress because they feel weird. Leave plenty time, dont get stressed if they dont load straight away and good luck.X

Thanks smiffyimp, yep, the lady who's driving the lorry said something about it, and they have to travel with passports (Essex really isn't a foreign country, although some people seem to think so lol!) Maybe it's just because I'm hiring the lorry and don't own it. May be some kind of legal requirement.

It's illegal for her to transport them without a passport. I don't think there is any law regarding tail bandages but maybe it's her law LOL! I wouldn't mind for a relatively short journey.
Good luck with the move, I hope you're all very happy at the new place.

Just thought of another thing, was weight rug would you travel in given it's freezing? My two are currently in mediumweights, not sure whether to leave these on or opt for something different. Are they likely to get hot in the lorry?

I moved my girl in December - only a 45 minute journey in a trailer. I put her thermatex on - she still came out wet through with sweat. I know travelling is tiring for them as they have to keep making adjustments to stand up. I'd be tempted to travel them in a summer sheet or fleece if you haven't got a thermatex (or other similar rug).

Good luck with your move :)
