Hi,
My horse is moving yards on tuesday. He is moving with his best friend but i want to obviously make the move as least stressful for him as possible. What can you recommend??

He is quite an introverted sensitive soul and in a herd he is always at the bottom, the one who gets pushed around! I've bought some NAF pink powder for his feed as a recommendation by someone but i would be so grateful for any other hints and tips or experience anyone has.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this
xx

Try not to get stressed yourself

I recently moved my slightly stressy yearling and I really thought it was going to be a bit of a nightmare settling her in

She had lived on a very quiet yard for all bar the 1st 4 weeks of her life and I moved her to a very busy farm which has livery for about 8 other horses/ponies plus their own.
She also was kept on her own for a few days quarantine (the YO's know the previous yard she was on very well so didn't have any health issues) and she'd only ever been on her own for short periods, and hated it

She was fine, and showed just how grown up she really was and how silly I was to worry

She even quite likes the cows, but not the big scary bull

Hope your move goes well and as stress free for you both as possible

You may find that moving with his best friend makes the whole experience quite stress-free. Can you turn them out together for a while? This will give them a chance to settle and then, if things look good, you can introduce them to the others in the new yard.

HE sounds like my gelding - moving is a trauma for him, wheras my mare loves to travel! TBH I think he will be fine if he travels with a horse he knows. Just try and keep everything low-key and hassle-free, and as above, don't get stressed yourself!

i worry about my OAP boy when moving as he's a victor meldrew, likes-where-he-likes kind of guy, he's going to a new field soon and i know hes going to be mad at me

on the other hand, i got a feral 2 year old a while back, when he was delivered was the first time he'd been out of his field/in a trailer/stable, slap bang into a mad house with a huge fireworks party next door - he loved it!
