Hi i am moving my horses to a new yard this weekend and i am so nervous.
It is the first time i have moved to a yard where i dont know anybody and i am just worried about fitting in or how my horses will settle. Is this normal to feel like this? You just hear some stories of what yards can be like, the woman who runs it is really nice and helpful, i am just really anxious and cannot wait for this weekend to be over. How has everybody else coped in this situation? Did you find it very stressful or am i just overreacting?

No you arn't over reacting... it's horrible but can also be quite exciting! :D It's like starting school again lol but after a week you will be fine!

I found it very stressful but have moved to yards so many times where I knew no-one (at uni and at home until I found my current yard!). I coped by making sure my horses stables were as nice as they could be (big beds, new salt licks, lots of hay) and then making sure I was uber nice to everyone and tried to be as helpful as I could be! It made others warm to me a bit and helped me to relax, but then I do relax by talking ..... a lot!! Can you tell :p!

I find the move itself is the most stressful part, moving rug trunks, rubber mats etc is exhausting!

Once at the new yard I tend to relax :) allow the horses a few days to get settled etc :) If you're worried about meeting the other liveries why not take a box of choccies or biscuits down the yard to break the ice? I'm sure no one would turn them down :D

Boogles can you come to my yard please and bring biccies and choc :D

I moved recently to a new yard - first move in 6 years from a very small farm to a bigger posher yard! I was scared, and unsure how it would be, but its been great. Horse instantly settled and people are lovely.
Good luck with it...I know its stressful but I am sure it will be just fine once you get there. :)

Give it a week and you will be fine, trust me. I left my first yard where I had been for five years due to clash between YO and myself and due to recurring injuries to horse due to inadequate fencing - I thought I would die of heart ache but it was a walk in the park. I left that yard after about four months as they went from DIY to full livery and I couldn't afford it. Then went to another yard where I was for a further four years but left as I lost two horses whilst I was there (nothing to do with yard) and had to many memories. Went to the fourth yard where I was REALLY happy but had to leave as owner giving up. Would go back there like a shot if I could. I then went to my fifth yard which is my current yard where I have been for over six years now. Each time was hard for the first couple of days but you soon adjust, and the horses didn't care where they were as long as their needs were being met. Good luck x

If the new yard is in Warwickshire it could be ours you are moving to as we have one space.

Thankyou for replies everyone i think i just needed some reassurance :) i am excited but also feeling sick to the stomach at the same time. I am lucky i have alot of friends offering to help so they can just give me a slap if i start having a panic attack!haha.
I'm liking the chocolate bics idea alot, there is a common room there so i could leave them in there with a little note;)
I was looking at my locker this morning and cannot believe the amount of things i have collected over the years so our garage is going to be nice and full. Will up date you and let you know how it goes. Thanks again :D x

Just thinking about moving myself, I have been at my yard for a looong time and can manage my horses as I want, but due to circumstances am dithering about moving. I dont like change I must admit and would hate to end up in a worse place, as some of the posts on this forum. Also just getting my newish horse settled and starting to be confident and bit worried about moving him. Im a nervous wreck too! Hopefully we will both survive intact! I think if you have done a bit of research and feel confident that the yard will suit its just a matter of getting your hooves under the table! My horses are happy where they are its just me, so I feel selfish about uprooting them.
