I’ve decided to move my 5 year old to a closer yard. I have no experience with moving yards and I’m finding it very confusing!

First of all, I’m moving from 24/7 turnout in summer and 5hrs a week turnout in winter to 12hrs in summer an 5 hours a day in winter, do you think this will affect her? I will fill her stable with toys and try to see her as much as possible so hopefully she’ll be fine.

I’m also wondering how she will be travelling as she has never been in a trailer before and I was wondering if I should start working on it or hire a company to travel her to her new yard (only 40 min drive)

Also, how long will it take for her to settle? When should I start riding her? And should I put boots on for travelling? (Never had any type of boots)

Sorry for the long one but hoping someone can help me!

I would get her used to a trailer ASAP. See how she is on the trailer before you worry about boots etc..When you move, start her on the yard routine and she should be ok if shes the sensible sort. They adapt very fast, but also enjoy routine so stick at it. If it was me i would aim to get her there before your normal ride time so she can go out for a bit then come in and ride and whatever usually happens after that routine...but you will need to play that by ear and see how she is getting on...maybe a day or two of lunging instead if she needs that. Try and stick to her normal routine as much as possible as that will settle her more, maybe even take a few bags of her current stable so she has a familiar smell in the new stable.
