I am sat here on this rainy day watching a programme on Sky 2 called So You Think That You Are Safe.

They have just held a controlled experiment on mozzie repellents. One leg covered in a variety of repellents and one leg bare. Mozzies were collected as they sucked blood. Incidently it is only females that suck blood as the protein is required to make eggs. Males do not bite at all.

Anyway, marmite, clove, garlic and a few others I can't remember DID NOT WORK.

Only two worked and they were Deet, and Eucolyptus (sp?) Oil and Lemon mixed. The man with Deet had none land on him and the lady with the Oil mixture only had one land on her.

So anyone know how much E oil and Lemon Oil to mix? I imagine this to be safe on a very sensitively skinned arab?....

Avon SSS works bloody wonders! Its so good soldiers were buying it in bulk before deployment.
Needs to be the green one though, the pink one doesnt work.

I don't find that it works at all and it made the skin on my sensitive skinned boy erupt in weeping sores.

Not sure if you rug?. My hyper sensitive lad used to go nuts even with rug. I then discovered a spray sold mostly in camping shops but some saddlers starting to stock it called skitostop. You spray it on the rug or flymask etc and i have found its really effective. I just spray the perimetre of the rug and down the middle and that is effective enough. We are in v bad area as low lying near water and this has really really improved my boy's life.

Did you dilute it down?
I find that I can dilute it up to 75% before it looses its effectiveness, as the neat product is too strong for any horse.

BE CAREFUL NOT TO USE UNDILUTED OILS AS THEY CAN BE VERY STRONG AND WILL DO DAMAGE TO YOUR HORSE'S SENSITIVE SKIN.
