So with mr brightside fast approaching 1 !!! ( next week where's the year gone) I decided to take him out to a low key show to see what it's all about. Unfortunately my shifts fell badly that week and had to bath 2 days before the show day which did not look hopeful for my cream/off white pony who is notoriously dirty (praying he turns back dark palomino) !! Anyway show morning arrived and only one dirty sock to be sorted so there is a god somewhere. Had planned to leave in plenty of time as only loaded once in his life and that was coming from the stud but he loaded great so we had loads of time to spare.
Arrived at the venue that was a lot busier than anticipated, left the Partition open wide so he had space and he was happy munching his net, non horsey OH (who does try to be horsey ) stayed whilst I went and did my entry and explored, thankfully no dramas from our camp but two ponies had got loose and caused chaos whilst I was gone. Anyway still massively early so chilled out on the ramp then started getting ready the class before. I unloaded him and he was HOT took him for a walk round and didn't feel confident I had control in the flimsy halter Que panic but just kept tight hold and headed to the collecting ring where suprising he calmed down and walked nicely in hand but I didn't dare risk practicing his trot. Eventually after what felt like a life time we headed into the indoor arena which caused no issues I got lots of comments about how well behaved he was and he walked nicely round with the others like a pro, we then did the in hand trot which I was worried about but fortunately he went round abit like a donkey to be honest but at least I had control hahaha and we lined up and did the individual show, by thus point he was bored and figeting in the line up so we calmly walked around, I was quite prepared to pull him out the clas if needed to we where just going for experience but he settled nicely and in his own show once again trotted like a donkey which was quite amusing but next Time I will perk him up abit if needed. We got some lovely comments from the judge who said he was lovely and straight in his movement and well behaved so I was over the moon with that, somehow we even managed to come home 5th out of 7 so I was beaming.
I had been lured into a false sense of security by this point and headed to the ramp to be met with a firm NOT A CHAnCE am I going in there so tried again and again and again. By this point we had caught the attention of the show field !! So as generally happens there was spectators and helpers lol but he had decided he was not going in and that was that by this point we couldn't get any further than about 3meters away from the ramp we had exhausted bucket options and I was cautious not to force him with lunge lines etc h as I didn't want him scared for future. The lovely venue owner appeared with a little pony to try and get him to follow but he wasn't having any of it. We tyres linked arms behind him and giving him a push but no. Eventually after two hours we were just stood at the bottom of the ramp his toes touchi the ramp nothing more then he swung his bum and went up backwards which wasn't ideal thankfully I managed to turn him round in the box and tie him up and we stood for ten mines just patting him and reassuring him as he was quite stressed.
So now we are trailer training most days and he is getting much more confident jn walking on the ramp again so fingers crossed!!!
