My horse is very moody, he is normally very pleasant but when he has the grump on he is just awful.
He stands at his stable and pulls faces and pins his ears at me / anyone and threatens the odd nip.... never actually nips but try's to give of the impression he might. He also can forget his mannors and wont move back right away ect.... As I said he is normally fine but sometimes he comes in and I swear he just decides he hates life... and me...
At first I found it funny, if it rained he would be grumpy ect but now im just finding it rude!

How would you deal with that type of behaviour?

How long have you had him/how old is he/how often does he do it?

There are too many variables to know how I'd deal with it - it sounds as if he is either in pain or stressed and feeling threatened.

I've had him since January, he is 8 coming on 9 and how often he does it varies ... sometimes every day.... sometimes just once a week.
I strongly believe he isn't in any pain, he has had saddle, back, teeth ect checked. He doesn't show any signs of being stressed as he will stand their happily but if someone or myself walks past he pulls faces. Absolutely no threatening behaviour shown towards him nor has there ever been since I have had him so I would be surprised if he felt threatened so im not sure why he decides to try and be threatening towards me.

As I said it seems to be very much a mood thing IMO but m interested into what others think :/

We have a one like this on our yard. Some days he is just lovely and typical ‘butter wouldn’t melt’ type. Other days he is just awful, pulling faces, lunging over his stable door, barging you out the way. Some days he likes other horses and some days he will try to kick anything that so much as looks at him.
We have put it down to him being a typical ‘teenager’!! He just wakes up with attitude some days. He has no physical issues and is in a good routine with set boundaries etc. Some days he’s just not very nice and that’s the way he is.
He can be like that to ride too, one day he’s a lazy kick along plod and the next he’s like a raging moron!

You have basically summed up my horse to a T! He is 8 though so I thought he would be out of his teenage tantrums by now :/
