May have to have an MRI scan on the boy. The insurance policy wording is '50% of the associated costs, if we have agreed in writing'.

Does this mean 50% of everything, or that they'll pay for just the scan and then 50% of horsepital stay/treatment/drugs etc?

Thankies :)

Mine didn't have to stay overnight but NFU who i was with paid 50% or the MRI and the sedation, drugs that are needed as part of it.
They also paid 100% of the transport costs to the clinic.

My boy was in for the day, so no overnight costs. Insured with Petplan, who pre-approved the MRI and covered everything bar transport and excess. Cost was just over £1200 last year.

My boy stayed overnight. Insured with Petplan they pre-approved MRI and then paid it all £1500 excluding excess / livery and transport. So not cheap :(

Hi,

Our horse had an MRI left fore 2 weeks ago and we were told the cost upfront..£650 for that one hoof. Had the option to do both but found plenty just in that one...not good news.

On the insurance front I couldn't see anything on the policy which excludes MRI and I advised E&L that the second opinion vet was referring us for the MRI and they have only stated that they have not yet received the bill so I think it will be ok subject to the usual excess.

We went to Edinburgh Vet School and if you look on their website they have I think got a list of indicative costs and also helpful on the phone.

Good luck x
