Hey all,

I have recently started using this (after being advised by my vet) as my boy can get very stiff and a bit 'clicky' sometimes when picking feet out, or in the mornings before turnout etc etc.

Has anyone ever used or had any experience of using this product? Any feedback good/bad would be much appriciated.

Thanks x

As I understand it, MSM is bio-available sulphur. The fibres in all connective tissue are held together by sulphur bonds, so by feeding MSM you may be able to help strengthen these sulphur bonds to help prevent the fibres being torn apart as in a ruptured tendon. I believe MSM also has anti-inflammatory properties. MSM and glucosamine if fed together work synergistically and compliment each other - glucosamine as the building block of cartilage to help the joints and MSM for the muscles, tendons and ligaments. If I were feeding a product as a preventative, or to an older stiff horse, I would choose one that had both in. BUT if I had a horse with a tendon or ligament injury I would choose to feed pure MSM.

Thank you guys, this is pure msm at the moment but will look into one with glucosamine, any reccomendations? i think cortaflex has glucosamine and msm but know a few people who use it that dont really rate it xx

I've just read a posting from May 08 about something similar. My vet recommended Cosequin for my mare who has arthritus in all four legs...!. It's not really made a lot of difference to her (she is still slightly lame in trot). She has been on it since June 08. Someone else mentioned Riaflex. This has the combination of MSM & Glucosamine and from what the lady said, worked very well for her hunter. You can have a look at their website for more info.

Check the ingredients list very carefully! There are a couple of cheap products on the market (from big brand names) that contain lots of fillers and preservatives and not a lot of actual ingredients! One famous one has less than 5g of glucosamine per dose, and recommended for a horse is 12g. Also look for one that has glucosamine hydrochloride rather than g. sulphate as it is purer. I use Equus Health Flexylimbs which is pure MSM mixed with pure Gluc. Hydro. and nothing else. Costs about £9 per month

I use msm and Glucosamine sulphate and devils claw on my two old boys. a friend out hunting recommended using human grade tablets, which are a lot cheaper than the horse stuff. 6months supply (for 1 horse)of all 3 cost under £40. and its easy you just put the tablets into their feed and thats it. they get 3,00mg of Glucosamine, 2,00mg of msm, 4,400mg devils claw and the best thing is if I get a bit stiff I use them too..
