Muck heap removal

Local farmer, takes mine away free

A local farmer takes mine. I pay £60 for one that is only about 12ft x 8ft and about 4ft high. I think that is a lot but can't find anyone else to take it.

I pay £100 to a local farmer and he puts it on his maize.
He takes it once a year and it's huge!! Would say 20ft x 20ft and 8ft tall!!

A local farmer took mine a couple of years ago for £15 per cart load & there were 4 loads, so £60.
I think farmers may be reluctant to take it now because of the contamination of manure through weed treatments on hay crops. Some weed killers remain viable & while not harmful to the horse, it is present in the manure & can affect plants adversely. I think there could be a problem if they were to spread it on crops. Presumably grass would be ok though.

we have a 3m skip that is collected twice a year. for £70.
we do burn it everynow and again to keep it down-lucky we dont have neighbours!
Even when we had 1 horse and 3 ponies it was only emptied twice a year.

It is actually illegal to burn your muck heap, and even if you have no immediate neighbours, the smoke can drift a long way and it is about the worst smell, getting into everything. At the moment, the stables near us is burning theirs and it is awful, we can't open the windows.

we use a local skip hire company who empty our muck on their farm-hence the cheap price!
ilotse- do know it's illegal but it just smoulders away without smoke and as said dont have neighbours

We had ours taken away last week, it was massive. The local farmer came and got it, he was the cheapest we could find but it still cost us £300 which i think is alot but it is worth it.

I had 3 tonnes taken away for £ 40. A farmer did the job for me and as someone else said its not easy to find someone.
