Do you normally have to pay to have your muck heap taken away?

If so any ideas what it costs. My muck heap is about 7 years old but with 3 extra horses its struggling to cope and growing bigger by the day lol!
 
Usually a local farmer will take it away for you, you'll obviously have to pay him for his petrol, just ask around and see how much they want for doing it.
 
I have mine spread on my land by a local contractor. Well rotted though. You need to put something back and it beats chemical fertilisers any day.
 
If it is 7 yrs old will be well rotted, ask local farmers if they will spread on your fields for you in autum... Will be good stuff, or ask local market gardener s if they want any free if they collect,
 
We had ours taken away last year by one of the local farmers for free, we buy hay off him year round though so most of it is his hay returning in composted form lol

We only do this every few years, but due to mine being box rested for 3-4 months, it looks like we'll need it taking away again this autumn too. Tip - get it removed before the ground in front (if not hardstanding) gets too soft, otherwise you have mud allllllllll winter :redface3:

ETA we do burn off the straw once/twice a year but we only have 2 horses stabled for 4-5 months, so its not like a huge fire, more a large garden fire.

We pay a local farmer to dump it in a fenced off corner of a field that isn't safe for the horses. It usually takes half a day and we pay about £100. We only get it done every three years or so.
 
Blimey! In surrey the local farmer wants £100 A LOAD. He quoted to remove our muck heap........£3,000!!! Only going to use it for his fields too! No one cheaper around here.........:(
 
Seriously if someone quoted me £3k I would buy my own tractor and trailer with the money and do it myself for free (and other people if there is no competition for the farmer in the area..)!
 
We muck out straight in to a trailer which is emptied once every 3 - 4 weeks on to a remote dung heep on our estate. The remote dung heap is turned 4 times a year to accelerate the rotting down process. Locals and some furher afield collect the manure and use it for their gardens etc. We don't own a tractor (bought a new tipping trailer) so get a local contractor to empty it with his tractor and pay him £15 per time.
