Hi,
When we have rain the waste from the muck Heap runs through my horse's stable leaving pools of water on his stable floor. Could this be harmful to my horse? At the moment he's suffering with a very snotty nose and a nasty cough.

Yes! They need to divert the water somewhere else, or you need to move stable

Your supposed to control run off from muck heaps, full of nitrate, so yes.

Thank you. Could this be why he's so snotty? I've tried all sorts of hay/haylage, breath easy meds however he's no better. He's only 4 so hasn't built up an immune system!

When horse droppings and urine mix with bedding, particularly straw, it breaks down to ammonia. Fantastic for soil conditioning and breaking down green waste on compost heaps, but pretty nasty to breathe in. Agree you need to move the run off or the stable.
