I've always kept my horse on livery yards but if i were to move him to keep him at home , what do people do with their muck heaps. i know people have them taken away but by whom and how does it work ? may be a dim question but never really had to think about it before !

I would do the same speak to some local farmers or offer it to the local people as people do use it on their gardens. Luckily we have our muck heap taken away and spread on the unused fields.

I put a sign outside for people to come and bag their own for free, or I enlist a helper and deliver trailer loads locally for £20, usually get rid of it all in autumn and make a couple of hundred quid for a bit of work (cheaper than the gym!!)

Depends on how much you are putting on it, adn how much room you have for one to be composting. As ours are onyl in in the winter (and only 2 of them are in) it rots down enough in the summer, and used by friends etc for the same muckheap to be used again the following year - although there is always some left. I think we get ours cleared out every fews years or so.

If you separate poo as much as you can and have a separate poo heap then thats the really good compost, for very good friends

We smoulder ours! and it then goes on the garden in the summer weve only 2 in and winter the farmer takes it away for the dairy farm fields which rest.
