OK- i need some suggestions for building a muck pile. I've got fence posts but what should I use to contain the muck? Anyone got a good solution? thanks
if you have somewhere to dispose of it regularly you could try using a large type trailer - we used to have one at the old yard, we hac a few planks to go up with the wheel barrow and it got taken away and emptied. dont think this would need planning permission?
I think there are a load of rules now relating to the building of & location of muck heaps.....something to do with keeping the run off from poluting the water table?
If at all posible, as has been said by previous poster, have a large trailer with a ramp to it. Fill it with muck & have a farmer either take it or you take it & dump it on one of his fields. Our yard, 26 horses, make a load of muck, & ours is taken away, piled up & spread later in the year by the farmer.
thanks for that link - will make sure it's 10m from the ditch then just in case that counts as a watercourse. Don't think I need planning as will just be a fencing arrangement. Sleepers sound good - will investigate that. Not many farmers around here want horse manure - plenty of cow slurry & chicken muck! Will have to pay for it to be collected. Thanks for your help
If you have straw then you build the banks with the straw and fill in the middle with shavings etc. I've made it with a ramp so that you constantly walk on it to tread it down. Its deceptive because it about 40ft long by 8ft wide.
Wow - what an ingenious muckpile! I like the idea of using straw as the walls. I use shavings for bedding so that would work. Can get straw quite cheaply - yay! Thanks
