Mucking out straw beds...

I love straw, and I secretly love mucking out too

I get to the yard really early in the mornings and it's so quiet and peaceful and my brain can just be empty.

A big comfy straw bed looks so satisfying when it's done, and there's nothing better than getting to the yard in the morning to a war, calm, rested pony, and a pony shaped flat patch on a straw bed!

I might be being bias and big headed but I honestly think my two horses have the nicest beds on our yard. And to add to my big headedness 3 other liveries have commented on how nice my straw beds are!

My older horse has a massive bed, huge banks it has to be swept into a straight line! My younger horse is dirtier so I deep litter her but with fresh straw ontop it looks equally as nice and the base is quite solid now so she can lie down and not go through to the concrete.

I think my horse is proof that my beds are great, as with his old owners he NEVER lay down at night, his bed was disgusting and very thin, the very first night we moved yards he lay down to sleep and has done every night since!

Yeah my mare always lies down and sleeps, she has always got a dirty face and straw in her tail!! But she lay down when her bed was disgusting on pellets!! Not very ladylike

I miss straw beds. Got shavings at the moment and it takes so much longer! Also straw is so nice and bouncy and warm, i use to love flopping down into a thick straw bed after mucking out. Wouldn't do that with shavings!

I'm obsessive about bankings and the 'line' too. It's just the way it has to be. And i love seeing horses legs disappear into it when they go in after mucking out. Even if they are trashing your work of art while they're at it

Mine lives out 24/7, but I have a huge comfy warm straw bed in his shelter with lovely big banks.....and I go down daily to fluff it up etc - well, he needs somehere to have a good nights sleep

Theres nothing better than a big straw bed

We have 2 on straw and one on shredded card board at my yard and I like them both.

Prefer the cardborad though if iI'm honest, takes seconds to M/O

I love mucking out my straw bed, my boy is generally very clean, wet in one place and neat poos but he does sometimes hide them!
I asked my little mate to "poo pick' today (I am semi deeping this week cos of the cold) and when I went in he had missed lots so I had to explain about lifting straw aside and actually looking - typical man (joke)!
