I have recently changed to straw bedding and so far i am finding it looks alot warmer and comfier for Catchie, however it takes a longtime to muck out. I don't mind but i was wondering if you had any tips?

Atm, i am using a poo picker to take the poos out. I have tried using a muck fork, and scooping the straw under the poo up as well, then shaking the poo off into the barrow and replacing the straw, but all the straw seems to fall in aswell. haha. I have no problems taking out the wet straw its just the poos that take a long time.

Thanks,

Have you tied rubber gloves and a bucket for picking the poos up? That would probably be quicker takes me 10 - 15 mins to do my stable i admit that shavings type beds are a bit quicker

That's what i do too. I go around and lift all the visible ones before i start with the fork. It does save some time. I find it far quicker than shavings as both of mine always kicked the poo all the way through the shavings so had to sift through to clean it. In straw, the poos aew all in one place and reasonably intact.
far better and warmer than shavings, oh.. and cheaper

after taking out the whole ones with the poo-picker,them the wet stuff,i use the prong and chuck it all up at the banks,so,the straw stays on the banks and the little poo-poos all tumble down then i sweep them into the poo-picker.

i am always toasty warm when i have done this every morning, even in this cold snap
