Mucus/Snot. What to do now?

Well since July my mare has been ill with a few issues and since Oct has had occasional but persistent snot/mucus. It doesnt seem to affect her in any way so far but the mucus can be green, yellow or white and change on a daily basis. It only comes out one nostril and she can gurgle and cough up masses of the stuff from time to time too. Vets have scoped her and xrayed her head but have seen nothing. they cant figure out where the stuff is sitting and coming from. They gave her a inhaler too but it hasnt helped.
There is no pattern to the mucus and it can go away for weeks or days and changes colour for no reason.
She also had white thick mucus during the spring which they thought was a allergy.
The xrays have also been sent along with her notes to a vet hospital and they have seen nothing and also cant think what is causing it.

I'm just looking for a little advice as I'm currently deciding what to do now. The options I have been given is Do nothing and live with it or put her to vet hospital for a few days and they will re scope her etc and see what they can find.

So guys what would you do if she was your horse? As my head is thumping with it all. haha.

I would get it investigated further, in hospital....unilateral nasal discharge can be a sign of a tooth abscess (believe me I have experienced one of these to the worst extent possible and we almost lost the horse). She went to a vet school in Scotland - I did not have a pleasant experience there - PM me if you want details...
 
Give her NAF D-tox! It will help her build up immunity to whatever is causing it. I have used it for a couple of horses that had this thick mucus and no real reason for it.

I go on about D-tox but it really is potent stuff and I have found over several years that there is not a lot it doesn't help.

I am nothing to do with NAF!
 
I would try another vet. Preferably an older vet who doesnt have to rely on modern gadgetry to tell him the answer,but who has seen enough cases to understand what is going on. My first guess is a sinus.
 
I'm currently waiting for vet to contact me back about sending mare away for referal. But want to know how much it will cost at horsepital and also how much we have clocked up on insurance. So I know if I'll get a bill from the horsepital etc.
