Mud and house dogs...how do you manage?

I just have a filthy house! We're in a tiny studio flat (although it does have its own garden) so there's no separate room where Ronnie could go until he's dried. And we're set up so that he has 24/7 access to the garden anyway, so he's in and out as he pleases - not that the garden's all that muddy, it's mainly at the farm where the horses are that he finds the muddiest puddles to trot through. Fortunately though, it's mainly just his paws and not usually the entire body!

Shorthaired dogs and slate tiled floors!

They have a good towel off if they are wet or muddy, then breakfast and then they like to have a quick post-meal sleep on their beds so don't walk around the house wet too much.

Floor boards throughout and tiles in the kitchen and hall. Dogs have access to the garden all day so newspaper at the back door (3 jrt's) I don't let them in my car so they go in OH dung-rover and god it smells like it to ! If really muddy they go straight into the bath. Woods where we walk them are sandy so worse thing is Au de' fox poo just behind each ear.

It's helpful if you have a deep bath and short legged dogs ;)

My lad will get a hose down at the yard if really minging, if not he's straight onto his bed until he is dry. He is a clean dog naturally so whilst he's drying off he's cleaning himself :)

As for the dog hair I've simply given up :o

My two are long haired mud magnets, so they get hosed after pretty much every walk all year round, whatever the weather :o I always towel them off, but they still always do their own special I'm-wet-so-I-need-to-tear-around-like-a-lunatic dance once they get inside :D They have doggy toweling robes to wear when they're really wet, to save my walls from muddy splatters.

Our current layout means that the dogs come straight in to the main hallway, but in a few months we will finally have a utility room to bear the brunt of their muddiness - hurrah! :)

There must surely be others out there who are evil regular cold hosers, like me?? I'm feeling a little guilty after reading about those of you who use buckets of warm water/warm indoor showers... :o

I think an equafleece is on the Xmas list for this year. Quick Q though, do they make the dogs go mental? I put one of my old fleeces on him when I got back once and he went bananas, house would have cleaner without! :p

Ditto the dyson animal too!

I have 2 short haired dogs (boxers) and equafleece jumpers to dry them off. Also have a basement which leads straight off the garden, perfect room to dry off wet, smelly dogs. Funny how on the same walk with 2 dogs of the same breed and size and age, the brindle one comes home with slightly muddy paws (2 seconds to wipe clean) and the white one comes home covered head to toe in MUD/ horse poo!

After years of wet stinky GSDs moved to smooth coated lurcher, and my, WHAT a difference! He wears a waterproof with a tummy part, and then we just towel his legs and he's clean and dry straight away. Also, have slate floors downstairs, carpets are a no no!

If I take mine up the yard and she gets muddy which is inevitable with a spangle lol, I hose her down before putting her in the car and wrap with a towel, if she's still wet when I get home I put towel down on the floor and dry her with a hair dryer, she is clipped.

If she's just wet from a walk I just do the same as above as its minus the mud !

wooden floors...!

Unfortunately the living room is at the back of the house (and onto the garden)! so we had to put a fence accross the garden so they are only allowed on the patio to crap and play on..!

Walks, just let them loose and have settee covers on and clean up after! however!!! like the equafleece!!!! will be investing in two of them!............!
