Does anyone have experience of their horse getting mud fever on sandy soil? My boy was kept on heavy clay for 6 years and never had any sign of MF. However, when we have holidayed on sand, and now moved to live on it he gets it! Its not really bad, and is only little patches which are manageable, but I just don't understand why, especially as none of the other horses have it. It also only appears on his 3 white socks

It may be dermatitis rather than mud fever. You could try a nice moisturising cream like Heel to Hoof. My ID got it in dry conditions, never in mud. Vet said it's seasonal dermatitis, some plants in the grazing can cause it too.
