Mud Fever powders - Keratex/Muddy Buddy - How do you apply??

Have been using the Keratex mud Shield powder the past couple of days and have already used over half the tub!! :eek: At over £10 a pot its going to cost me a fortune! I have two neddies so 8 legs to do but still seem to have gone through it quick. Think I am loosing most of it over the floor :rolleyes:

I have been shaking it on to a grooming brush and brushing on to their legs in the opposite direction of the hair to try and get it down to the skin but still loosing lots, it just puffs about everywhere! lol.

Any other ideas? Or is this just the way it goes? Thanks :)
 
Wow that's a lotta dosh to be spending on mud fever!

Can I ask if they already have it or is this actually prevention?
 
Its for prevention, they have been in for two weeks already recovering from having mud fever previously, now just trying to prevent it from returning.

Have tried pig oil but one of them had a reaction to it on the patch test. Hate the creams you can get as they are a nightmare to put on and then a nightmare to wash off they just end up all sticky and the bedding gets stuck to it etc.. yuck!

The powder is really simple just seem to be loosing a lot of it and wondered if there was any marvellous ideas as to stop this?
 
Definitely put it in your hand and slap it on with the fur pulled out of the way. I put a layer of udder cream over the top to keep it from being blown out and further waterproof the leg. I had the same tub of Keratex for 3 winters!!!

God! definately doing it wrong then! lol. I have been applying everyday as the tub suggests. Right or wrong?

Does udder cream get all sticky and horrid as some other creams do?

Yes I just put it on my hands first then rub it in, against the hair growth. Then I put cream on any scabby/bald bits so they get a bit more protection. Hopefully now the fields are drying we won't have to worry about MF for too much longer though!

I only used it daily if there was already mudfever present. Once a week for prevention usually. Udder cream is great stuff. I suppose the legs don't look so good when you apply it but I never cared much about looks in the winter. Once you've applied it, rub the excess off through the mane and tail and you will have lovely mud and knot-resistant locks for free and gratis, and without that horrible slipperyness you get with silicon based products. Smells rather nice too.
 
Definitely apply by hand and rub in against the growth of the hair. I re-apply it about every 2-3 days, or should I say did, fields drying up now so not using so much. Lasts ages and definitely waterproof, every noticed how hard it is to wash off your hands?
