My mare sufferes from mud fever and as its getting to the time of the year when it's at it's worst I really want to prevent it from her getting it badly, anyone have an suggestions on what to use to prevent it/ as a barrier?
Her legs have been clipped and I've been using hibiscrub and massaging it into the sore bits on her heels and to get the scabs off then putting some aloe vera gel on sometimes sudacrem. Don't think I'm doing much wrong it just tends to be stubborn!

My coloured cob used to suffer badly and failed his pre-purchase vetting with his mud fever. I still bought him and found what worked for him was:

- coming in at night so his legs could dry off
- keeping legs clipped out
- brushing mud off rather than washing
- udder cream on his lower legs every day before turn out
- Naf mudguard supplement

He never had it when I followed this regime, but obviously every horse is different.

She it turned out in the morning then in at night and legs are clipped. Bought some udder cream a few weeks ago and been trying it as a barrier when she's out in the day and so far so good just a little sore at times but nothing too bad! Thanks :)
