Mud fever/ turnout boots

Have any of you had any success using turnout boots to prevent mud fever?

My mare currently has mud fever which i will let clear up before putting any boots on but i am wondering how good they are? Are they much better than a decent barrier cream?

I have looked at the Equi librium close contact chaps, sportabac boots and these- http://www.dragonflysaddlery.co.uk/addto...&itemid=491
