mud fever

the old horse i got has got bad mud fever .
he is now stabled
any ideas how i can get rid of it

I found sudocrem excellent at clearing up all of ours mud fever.

Keep the area dry, I picked the scabs off and plastered in sudocream and its all healed up now

liquid parafin and capful of hibiscrub massaged in takes all the scabs off, then slap loads of sudorcream on

conotrane cream can be bought from chemist worked wonders on my horse.

also flamazine cream, then wrap with clingfilm, and stable bandage for 12-24hours. it sweats all the scabs up and clear it right up

I am a keratex powder fan and I also put inside my Westhrope turnout boots when they are turned out and it has cleared up perfectly and no return

sudocrem is fab for mudfever. however, just dealt with the worst case of mud fever iv ever seen. skin falling off in clumps, big open cuts etc, if it is a really nasty case i would recommend from scratch dealing with as follows, it worked really well
1. clip hair off, hibiscrub, antibiotics orally 1 twice a day for 5 days
2. blue marker spray (used for foot rot etc in sheep) once a day put this on other wise dont touch and keep clean and dry.
3. when all dried up and worst scabs are starting to come away, out comes the good old sudocrem again! or protocon gold is also very good stuff although more expensive than a tub of sudocrem!

clip hair wash in hibi scrub pat dry apply flamazine then wrap in cling film over night do that for a couple of nights until the scabs are done then start using a barrier cream!
