Hello all i really need help here. My mare has mud fever on her back leg, was swollen and heat comeing from it after i had washed all her legs with shampoo. She is not lame , but it is sore to touch. Tonight i have clean it with hibiscrub and picked of the scabs as much as i could and she would let me. I did not see it as it was higher up her leg. Now i need to know whats the best cream to help it heal. Also are these boots worth buying, after mud fever cleared up? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220555157577&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

thank you for your help :0)

Have you really got so much mud that its up their legs already? We are in the Pennines, and ours get mud fever at the drop of a hat, but we've hardly any mud yet. Be sure you're treating the right thing...

Muddy marvel descab is as good as flamazine from the vets, and cheaper. Thier three step program is really good. I always think that if the mudrash/ swelling is above the knee/ hock its a case for the vet..

The turnout boots/socks are very good, but we needed two pairs per horse to enable us to dry them. They even helped the scabs come off too. Straw bedding helped too, as it kept the legs dryer and warmer...

Don't pick the scabs off, you could make it all sore and bloody again. The best thing is to smother the scabs with Sudocrem or similar, cover it in cling film and some bandages or wraps for two or three hours and then you should be able to wipe the scabs away as they will have softened.

Aromaheel is supposed to be excellent for mud fever.
