I've never had a horse with mud fever before. My old boy is living out for the first time this winter, I have had him 12 years and he has never had a problem - he used to be turned out 12 hours a day and then brought in overnight - legs washed off and put in the stable.
He is now out 24/7. The field is not particularly muddy but there was a period when it did get quite wet. Its dry again now. I noticed when I picked his feet out yesterday, that on two (one front, one hind, and the black feet not the whote ones) that he had some dry bald patches. They are not red or sore or scabby at all. Is this the start of mud fever or just where dry mud has been on his legs and feet maybe?
The patches are just where the top of an overreach boot would be, and at the back.
Thanks
