Whats the best way to get it off when brought in from the field my horse is prone to mud fever and touch wood he been ok this year! but is coming in with mud allover very wet clay type is it better to wait for it to dry or to wash it off with hose ?? x

Pig oil (and sulphur) them!. Just done it to my boys legs and it's made such a differnce!

Get the legs clean and dry then work loads of pig oil and sulphur into the feathers and down to the skin.

It really stops the mud from sticking and it dries and flakes off by itself really easily.

My horses has a small amount of feathers and I've found that they're a little muddy up to the pasturn when he comes in but by the time I've come back from a hack they're sparkling clean and dry.

Oh, and my lot are currently up to their ankles in liquid mud :(
