Arghh my grey mare has had mud rash scars since last year ... no hair growth at all and looks awful does anyone know of anything to help promote hair regrowth?
Sorry to hear the mud rash has scarred, my 3yo had something similar and the hair has grown back amazingly quickly on its own.
Worth trying Megatek from Tailgator - I have used it on bites and kicks once healed, rug rubs etc with great success, even on a very fine skinned AQH. One of mine is grey - it's doing a good job on a lovely bite mark she managed to acquire! I tend to just dab a tiny bit on neat every other day or so until the hair starts to grow back. www.tailgator.co.uk
I've found Well Horse to be really good with hair regrowth. I've been fighting the good fight against my mare's mud fever all summer and WH has really helped. You could also try MTG - its pretty oily smelly stuff but my friend swears by it.
If no hair has grown for a year there may be a possibility that it will never grow back.
To help treat the mudfever for a rapid result as soon as you spot it developing wash the legs thoroughly with Nizoral shampoo. You can buy it from the chemist. Dilute with hand hot water and lather up well, I find an old face cloth is great. Wash well beyond the affected area as well. You can leave it to dry - which is what I do or you can rinse it off after 10 minutes.
If you catch it fast you may find that you only need todo one wash and it will be gone.
