Hi all so my mare lives out 24/7 and has to be tacked up by the gate as we have no stable/shelter. The area is sectioned off so they can't stand there all day making it worse put its still a big deep muddy puddle! Can you offer any solutions, I hate grooming/tacking her up and having her standing in mud! The rest of the field is electric fenced all the way round the edge, any suggestions welcome!

Grass mats, but you're too late for this year as they need to be laid before it turns into a bog.

Screened hardcore? Or phone around your local tree surgeons and see if they'll let you have their surplus chippings. Wood chip very quickly turns to mulch though.

grass mats would be my choice (saving up for some myself) I wouldnt use woodchip as it turns to mulch and can be very deep. if going for harcore etc make sure you put down a square of terram underneath otherwise it will sink into the ground. All you need to do is literally lay down the terram and get a lorry from towens or quarry to back up and tip the stone - you can then do the hard bit of levelling it out - you will need quite a lot to make it worthwhile - a lorry load rather than a couple of tonne dumpy bags (lorry works out much much cheaper)
