I'm wondering, how do you get wet mud off of a pony??

Loads of the horses at my yard are muddy all the time and the mud on them never seems to dry!!! it is sooooo frustrating:mad:

Any replies appreciated!!!

There's plenty of posts on here about mud fever etc so I should have a trawl through that. Many people use oil of various kinds on their horses legs, the main one seems to be pig oil and sulphur which is brilliant for repelling water and mud, it just washes off!! The only thing to be careful of is if your horse has got pink skin and white hair (like mine) - as it can be a little too harsh for sensitive skins and you'd need to do a patch test first in any case.

What you could do is use any oil, such as baby oil, Avon Skin So Soft, olive oil, or whatever, and put it on a sponge and just wipe over the coat. This will repel a lot of the mud and you'll find it a lot easier to deal with, especially on the legs and heels area.

Mine was out clumping around in the mud today and I brought him in and there was virtually no mud on him at all! Bliss! So well worth trying.

I have a mud lark (grey :o - well, supposed to be...) and I tried Nettex's Seven Day's Mud Away last winter (like MJsR2Bt says, it's oil based). Loved it! Really did only have to use it on cleaned up horse once a week and stopped those awful battles with grooming, especially when he had caked the back of his ears which he HATES being groomed and the bits round his stifles.
