Mudfever - also in veterinary

Can you get some old carpet, and put it down inside her shelter?. Just lay it on top of the mud, but make sure it overlaps. I did this once, and it worked really well, especially as when the neighbours heard of my plight they all brought round their old off-cuts. Nice for the horse to lie on as well. But you'll need strong friends to help you haul it out in the spring. Good luck!

My friends horse has mudfever.

She has no stable available, and her field is pure mud (including inside the shelter), so trying to manage this condition is hard.

Any advice I could pass on would be hugely appreciated.

Thank you

How big is the shelter? I would put a gate accross the entrance and bed the shelter down thick in straw and shavings mixed together- I have done this with a natural floor shelter before and as long as its topped up it should hold out. Otherwise I would livery horse elsse where untill it clears as mudfever can cause painful lameness and with more wet weather due the fields will only get wetter :(

I had a similar issue but asked YO to open a new field after pointing out the fields were unsuitable for 6 horses- he agreed to use the driest of the 4 resting fields. Thrush in my pony's hoof is clearing nicely now :)
