I took Beau along to Muirmill for our first official outing with a few other people from our yard.

It was an early start (0500 ) but we managed to leave on time for once without a major panic. :D
Well, we arrived at 0920 for an 0930 start. Three hours later, they had finally gotten on to the jump off for the first class.

By the time they were halfway through the 70cm class, I'd given up on jumping the 90cm derby and decided to just do the WH clear round instead.

Beau was a good boy.
He didn't look at any of the fences, including the one with the scary toy snake wrapped around the front part of the oxer. :D
Unfortunately my satnav failed big time and we had a few wrong turns in the first round. :o
The second attempt was much better although I did have to circle between 5 and 6 because there was just no way I could have gotten him to turn that tight.
It was my first time jumping on grass and up/down hills.

1500 rolled around and my dad started bugging me to change to the 80cm class as we had to wait for someone to jump in it anyways.
Silly me did as I was told.

I was last on the board but we managed to get bumped up to 8th and my lovely RI, who had come to cheer us all on, offered to walk the course with me while I scared myself at the thought of jumping some of the fences. :o

A quick description of the course:
natural fence to two on a dogleg.
90 degree turn to a one-stride double at three.
circle to the left and come back on yourself to four then 7 strides to oxer.
triple bar/staircase down the bottom of the field for six then across the diagonal over seven.
eight was the horseshoe fence on a dogleg from seven then nine was the bank/drop with a fence two strides before it.
I'll leave it at that - read on to find out why.

He popped one nicely but we had a slight disagreement over which way to turn to two. I got him over that one for him to fix on the wrong fence and I had to circle and re-present him to the correct one.
Another disagreement on the circle round to four then straight ahead to five without any issues.
He had a look at six but jumped it clear and cleared seven and eight with no problems.

I panicked on the approach to nine and buried him in the fence, which upset our balance.
He hesitated at the drop and I went *splat* so we got a bit fat E. Clever pony stayed put after I fell off, which was a nice surprise as last time he legged it and refused to be caught. :o

I can't blame Beau. He wasn't sure and I didn't say to him to "go on, you can do it". I do sometimes forget that he's only 6 as he usually nannies me over jumps. :D
Anyways, my dad popped on him to school him over the practice fences and we ended on a good note.

We popped him back on the lorry to wait for the other person and silly me managed to slip on the lorry ramp and fall off it.
My knee is huge and I can't bend it fully so no riding for me this week. :(
