10yr old TB did ok over weight, but could of done with little more weight, luckily in light work so no additional calories needed as just maintained. ulcer believed in past when racing ok now and up to date on teeth etc…
Was on ab lib hay at night, out during day, was feed x2 am and pm - condition nuts (either mole valley/local feed shop) (whole big scoop), sugarbeet (whole big scoop), 3/4 cup of linseed, slash of oil and sprinkle of chaff. Tried to keep simple ish.
currently out on grass 24/7, once daily of 3/4 scoop of pony nuts, balancer/chaff looks great.
it seems I just didn’t get it right over weight, when it shows good grass and token feed is working amazing whilst in work and holding condition.
What would others try, I hope to continue to be in light/med work over winter so will need something extra to aid judging by last year.
Would grass nuts help replace what he gets from the summer grass? Maybe sugabeet/grass nut mix, and ease and excel to cover guy health whilst having similar input to a conditioning feed and being in over night it will hopefully reduce risk of ulcers.
it’s so confusing with the many feeds and brands, and it can get quite complicated.
only looking now so I can slowly use up old feeds in readiness of poss change/sort storage space whist weather nice - spring clean.

My older TB used to do ok on grass nuts/um sugarbeet/linseed/oats/minerals and vit E in work in the winter, with 4 feeds a day, but as he's got older it just wasn't enough. It got to where the volume required was too large, and also he went off his feed (maybe not a coincidence). We've ended up on Equijewel, Re-leve and oats, with a tiny amount of amont of soaked grass nuts and UMSB to mix it all up. He looks fantastic - much better now than he has in a long time. My bank balance looks worse.

Obviously ensuring truly ad-lib, good quality hay/haylage is the first thing to check though, and teeth.

Mine gets grass nuts, sugar beet and linseed in a big bucket, and a smaller feed of pink mash and alfalfa with his supplements in. He is a good doer while on grass and a much poorer doer in winter with no proper grazing. He also gets a small amount of vitamin e which seems to make a big difference.

We feed the whole yard equerry Conditioning Mash and have done for several years. They look great, it's simple to feed and it's very palatable. I've also found that their feet grow like nothing else on it, which is a bonus!
